We will also focus on teaching your dog how to use the obstacles safely, as well as sequencing the obstacles together for a chance at a full run during the last session! Prestonwood Kennels Welcomes our New Dog Trainer, Katie Hiett

My name is Katie Hiett, and I have been around dogs my entire life. My family and I have two dogs we share our life with, Annabelle Lee (A 10 year old Shepherd/Lab mix) and Matilda Jane (An 9 year old Cattle Dog mix). I began training dogs in April of 2000. Over the years, I have earned my Certified Pet Dog Trainer title through the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT). I was also certified by the AKC to administer the Canine Good Citizen Test in 2003. I have attended countless seminars and conferences through the APDT and IACP (International Association of Canine Professionals) to stay current in techniques and equipment. My career has allowed me the pleasure of working with hundreds of dogs and owners of all backgrounds and abilities. From puppies to senior dogs, blind or deaf dogs to doggie amputees, I have had the joy of being able to teach them all the skills they need to ensure a happy life. I have also had the fortune of being able to train in many different environments as well. I have taught in boarding kennels, shelters, in-home and at parks. The majority of my career was spent at PetSmart where I believed I could reach the most people and save the most dogs. I thoroughly enjoyed my position as an Area Trainer there for 8 years. Not only was I in charge of the training in my store, but I was also responsible for training other trainers as well. After much consideration, I resigned at the beginning of 2010 to stay at home with my young daughter. I quickly missed training dogs, and found that friends, family members and past clients, continued to call on my expertise to help train their canine family members. I started Annabelle's Academy to continue the mission of helping dogs stay out of shelters and in loving homes where they belong. In October of 2011, I began teaching with Prestonwood Kennels, offering group classes and agility classes. My passion is to educate people about the pets they love, and teach their pets how to function in a human society, so they can both live in harmony together!
